Wings of Change,
I was a bird for that afternoon, marching alongside fellow earth friends and amazing PowerShift folks down the streets of Ottawa, chanting things like I SAY SHUT DOWN YOU SAY TAR SANDS. SHUT DOWN! TAR SANDS! SHUT DOWN! TAR SANDS! and all sorts of chants that escape my mind at this very moment…
Holy protest Batman, I have been to a lot of marches, I wouldn’t be surprised if I was conceived at one… Or after one. My parents met each other at a march, my dad was apparently quite the leader which immediately had my mom swooning. Oh young love.
And though I love a good march, drumming, dancing, singing, screaming away I had yet to ever dress up in such elaborate costume…
So this day, this march was quite something.
And even more amazing did it feel to be covered in a bird skin of patches made by high school students across Canada with their messages and ideas of change. It was beautiful. I felt beautiful and one with the world… especially species of the winged variety. There were three of us, well one bird was held up by three folks (6 in total for the original holders from Halifax had to leave in middle of march - PS we love you Halifax wink to Hilary who made all these bird suits! -)
SO yes, quite the experience, and oh how nice it was to start singing LOVE IS SOMETHING IF YOU GIVE IT AWAY GIVE IT AWAY GIVE IT AWAY, down Elgin street and have at least a couple hundred people start singing along too.
So thank you PowerShift, all the others in the march - to the corporate zombies, the ghosts of human rights, Giant evil Harper and to the banners and signs of brilliance. Thank you Ottawa, Thanks grand activists, students, learners, teachers, inspirations, and over all amazing folks fighting the good sustainable living, climate justice fight. I LOVE YOU ALL. I really do… Especially Su who let me room with her, and all the lovely new friends I made, friends I know I will see and dance and march and sing with again.
Much love and understanding,
